Gain 20/20 Vision for this New Year
Ah, 2020, it’s not just a new year, but a new decade as well! An opportune time to look forward as well as back.
When I reflect back on 2019, I can clearly see the faithfulness of God in my life in both big and small ways. I can also identify particular longings I’ve held the whole year through which went unfulfilled. As “they” say, hindsight is always 20/20…
But why must only hindsight be 20/20? Why can’t we look forward into the future with the same clarity? I know what some of you might say, “The future hasn’t happened yet. We’d be hard-pressed to see things which had yet come to pass”. While that’s true regarding the particulars of this upcoming year, there are many biblical precepts of which you can be absolutely certain will be true straight on through 2020.
- You are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
- All (each of) the days of your life have been purposed (ordained) by the Lord from the time you were in the womb! (Psalm 139:16)
- The Lord has determined both the time and place where you will live. (Acts 17:26)
- Your life is meant to play a role in the redemptive plan Jesus has in mind for this world. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
- The Lord is trustworthy and faithful. (Psalm 145:13)
These facts being true, you can know, with 20/20 vision, what to be gearing up for during this new year:
HEALTH—maintaining of the same good health as last year, pursuing better health in 2020 than in 2019, or, just as importantly, striving to recover from sickness, disease, or disability which has, in the past, hamstrung your ability to serve the Lord with all of your (physical) strength.
You, my friend, have been given a physical body with which to accomplish pre-ordained, spiritual gains. Some of these gains will be personal, some will be expressed within the body of Christ, and some will take you to those who have yet to come to believe in the Messiah who was sent to save, redeem, and restore mankind.
This is the reason I continue to write these Monday Morning Health Tips—for a full decade of Januarys now! I long to equip you with the same knowledge I am equipping myself with. Together we will strive, improve, backslide, and recover. Ultimately though, if we link elbows, we can reach our fullest potential to be used by the Lord—for His purposes and for His glory. When our earthly race is completed, we will assuredly hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into your rest.” Can’t wait to see you at the finish line!
Happy New Year!
May God richly bless you and those you love!
