Fire Up Your Metabolism: The 3-2 Method

campfireFire Up Your Metabolism: The 3-2 Method

An epidemic is raging in our country today, and for the most part, people are completely unaware of its presence. The latest research has revealed that one in three adults over the age of 20 has diabetes or pre-diabetes right now—and 80% of them have no idea! These two diseases, for which out-of-control blood sugar is the culprit, wreak havoc within the entire body leading to heart disease, peripheral artery disease, strokes, kidney and liver disease, nerve pain, blindness. There are even strong connections between runaway blood sugar levels and breast, endometrial, and colon cancer!

Greater than normal blood sugar fluctuation is the result of what and how much we eat. In our fast paced society, we tend to feed ourselves only when we have the time, and then only with whatever is the quickest to grab. This is the reason for much of our blood sugar woes. While there are many factors that can work towards regulating your blood sugar metabolism, there is an easy step you can take this very day to protect yourself from high and low blood sugar swings. I call it “The 3-2 Method”: 3 meals, 2 snacks.  Simple, yes. Commonplace, no.

You see, your body’s sugar metabolism is much like a campfire. Upon waking from your sleep-induced fasting, only “hot coals” are left glowing. You must “begin the blaze” again with some breakfast “kindling”. When that meal is finished “burning”, a healthy mid-morning snack is necessary to protect your blood sugar “fire” from burning too low. A well-portioned lunch should again be followed by a mid-afternoon snack, and finally by another health-ful meal at dinnertime. This daily “3-2 Method” will help keep your blood sugar levels on target, while protecting you against food cravings and overeating at your next meal.

If this sounds like an awful lot of eating to you—that’s the point! Small, healthy food portions throughout the day lend themselves to well-controlled blood sugar levels.  And that, my friend, is what will help protect you from becoming this sugary epidemic’s next victim!
